COMMITTEES

IAF has been actively working on sustainability subjects, industry innovations and purchasing practice standards through collaborations and advocacy for several years. To be able to focus each subject deeper and formulate IAF’s position on defending the interests of its members in global initiatives, IAF decided to build committees for each strategic priority subjects. These committees represent a vital step toward enhancing and consolidating all previous efforts.

1. Business Innovation Committee

The prevailing business model in the apparel industry, which shapes supply chain relations, is fundamentally flawed. The current system, characterized by significant markdowns, high inventory levels, and large quantities of unsold goods, is economically unsustainable for most manufacturers, hindering their ability to contribute to more sustainable supply chain practices.

The Business Innovation Committee will address this issue in depth, with a focus on transitioning the industry toward enhanced profitability by embracing flexibility, digital design processes, and upstream data collection. The committee’s objective is to enhance the adaptability and efficiency of the garment industry, thereby increasing profitability and flexibility within the supply chain. To achieve this objective, the committee will organize webinars, publish research papers, and launch global initiatives.
