Portuguese Textile and Apparel Association congratulates Mário Jorge Machado on his re-election as President of EURATEX.

This new mandate reflects the confidence placed in his leadership and his continued commitment to strengthening the competitiveness, resilience, and strategic relevance of the European textile and apparel industry.

As highlighted by ATP Director General, Ana Paula Dinis:

“I have been following the work of EURATEX since 2004, which made this a particularly special and emotional moment for me. It was wonderful to reconnect with former colleagues, revisit shared initiatives, and reflect on everything that has happened over the years. Companies may sometimes feel they are facing challenges alone, but behind the scenes there are associations such as EURATEX and ATP working every day to defend the interests of our industry. Much of this work goes unnoticed. In many cases, more time is spent fighting the battles than talking about them. Thank you to the EURATEX team for creating this moment and, above all, for 30 years of commitment to the European textile and apparel industry. Congratulations on this milestone, and best wishes for continued success in the years ahead!”

ATP will continue to work closely with EURATEX to promote a stronger, more sustainable, and globally competitive European textile and apparel sector.

The final conference of the European VETRINE project brought together ATP – Portuguese Textile and Apparel Association, project partners, experts, students, and industry representatives to present the key outcomes of a collaborative effort dedicated to promoting sustainability, innovation, and skills development within the fashion sector.

The high level of participation, both in person and online, confirmed the relevance of the topics addressed by the project, which sought to tackle the challenges of the sustainable transition through the development of specialised training programmes and the practical application of new methodologies across the fashion value chain.

Importance of collaboration

During the event, Christina Stamataki, from Eurotraining Educational Organization and Project Coordinator, highlighted the importance of collaboration among the various European partners in ensuring the initiative’s success. Ana Paula Dinis, ATP Director General, shared ATP’s experience in coordinating connections between trainees and companies within the sector, a key component in ensuring the practical application of the knowledge acquired.

One of the central moments of the conference focused on the students from four European countries whose sustainable fashion products received the highest number of votes on the project platform. The participants presented their work to the audience, followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Alice Gras of AG Conseil, which explored the impact of the experience on their academic and professional development.

The VETRINE project demonstrated how international cooperation between training providers, technology centres, business associations, and companies can help accelerate the sustainable transition of the European textile and apparel sector, preparing a new generation of professionals for the challenges of the green economy.

Giselle Nath – De Standaard – 19 juni 2026

“Zo kan het niet verder.” Voor het eerst noemt de internationale federatie van textielproducenten overproductie van goedkope kledij het grootste probleem van de kledingindustrie. “We verbranden ons kapitaal.”

On 11 June, EURATEX hosted the Brussels Textiles Forum 2026, bringing together 150 participants from the European textile and apparel ecosystem, EU institutions, industry, social partners and consumer organisations. Sponsored by Indorama Ventures, the event provided a timely platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the sector.

The Forum took place at a defining moment for Europe’s textile and clothing industry. High energy prices, global competition, regulatory pressure, e-commerce imports, sustainability requirements and geopolitical uncertainty are all reshaping the conditions under which European companies operate. Throughout the day, speakers and participants reflected on how Europe can support a textile industry that remains competitive, innovative and resilient while leading the transition towards sustainability and circularity.

Competitiveness problem

Opening the Forum, EURATEX President Mário Jorge Machado underlined that Europe does not have a textile problem, but a competitiveness problem. His message set the tone for the day: European textile companies are ready to invest, innovate and decarbonise, but they need fair rules, affordable energy, effective enforcement and industrial conditions that allow production to remain in Europe.

The morning sessions focused on the competitiveness of the European Union and the future of the textile and clothing industry. Speakers highlighted the importance of reducing red tape, strengthening the Single Market, scaling innovation, improving access to investment and ensuring that European rules apply equally to all products placed on the EU market. The debate also confirmed the strategic role of textiles beyond fashion, including in healthcare, construction, transport, agriculture and defence. A stakeholder panel brought together perspectives from industry, the European Parliament, trade unions and consumer organisations. Discussions addressed the need to make circularity economically viable, support investment, use public procurement strategically, retain skills and industrial expertise, and strengthen consumer trust. The panel confirmed that the future of textiles requires cooperation across the full value chain and a stronger alignment between competitiveness, sustainability and social responsibility.

Sessione on the policy files

In the afternoon, participants joined dedicated sessions on the policy files that will shape the sector in the coming years. Discussions covered eco-design and the Digital Product Passport, customs reform and e-commerce imports, energy and decarbonisation, trade diversification, textile waste and the Circular Economy Act, and the future European Product Act. Across the sessions, one message was clear: sustainability, competitiveness and enforcement must go hand in hand. The Forum also highlighted the need for a stronger and more coherent European approach. Circularity will only scale if secondary materials become economically viable, customs and market surveillance systems are strengthened, energy remains affordable, and companies receive the right conditions to invest in Europe. Participants also stressed the importance of avoiding fragmented rules across Member States and ensuring that the Single Market remains a driver of competitiveness.

30th anniversary celebration

The day concluded with EURATEX’ 30th anniversary celebration, offering a moment to look back at three decades of cooperation, advocacy and representation for the European textile and apparel industry. Speeches from honorary presidents recalled the origins of EURATEX and its role in building a united voice for the sector in Brussels. The anniversary also carried a strong message of unity in adversity. Over the past 30 years, the industry has faced repeated crises, from globalisation and supply chain disruptions to energy shocks, unfair competition and an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Yet the celebration showed that the strength of the European textile community lies in its capacity to adapt, cooperate and speak with one voice.

The Brussels Textiles Forum 2026 showed that the European textile and apparel industry is actively engaging in the transition, proposing solutions and building alliances. The message from Brussels was clear: Europe needs a competitive, innovative and resilient textile industry, and the right conditions must be created for it to stay, invest and grow in Europe.

A group of 21 Brazilian brands participated in a series of events that make up Miami Swim Week 2026 in the United States, and achieved significant results. The volume of business conducted during the event exceeded US$426,500, and the expectation for the next 12 months is approximately US$2.03 million. Together, they made more than 460 contacts.

Support

All companies received support from Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program), a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), with 18 of them showcasing their collections at SwimShow, considered one of the most traditional and relevant swimwear fashion fairs in the world, which took place between May 30 and June 1 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Unprecedented action

Simultaneously with SwimShow and at the same location, two other Brazilian companies made their debut at Curve Miami, also with the support of the Texbrasil Program: Mari M and Plié. Another unprecedented action that marked this year’s edition was that, for the first time, Colombiamoda Miami opened its doors to brands from other countries, and Brazil was represented by Borana. The event was held at Throw Social, between May 27 and 29.

“Brazilian beachwear stood out for the high quality of its products, the creativity that reflects the country’s identity, and an internationally recognized standard of excellence. These attributes reinforced the competitiveness of national brands and consolidated Brazil as a global reference in this segment,” says Adriana D’Agostini, Commercial Promotion Manager at Abit.

IAF calls for industry mindset shift from lowest unit cost to end-to-end productivity, smart flexibility and shared value creation

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Zeist, Netherlands – 15 June 2026

The International Apparel Federation (IAF) has launched its Manifesto for Smart, Productive and Sustainable Apparel Manufacturing, developed through the work of the IAF Business Innovation Committee (BIC).

The Manifesto argues that the apparel industry’s greatest losses occur not primarily in manufacturing cost, but in systemic inefficiency — including overproduction, excess inventory, markdown cycles, lost capital and operational friction across supply chains.

As the industry faces growing pressure from market volatility, digital transformation, sustainability requirements and evolving business models, the Manifesto calls for a fundamental shift from traditional lowest-unit-cost sourcing toward end-to-end productivity, capital efficiency, resilience and smarter supply chain collaboration.

“At a time when the industry is under pressure from multiple directions, incremental improvements are no longer enough,” said Cem Altan Immediate Past President of IAF.

“The future competitiveness of apparel manufacturing will depend on the ability to align production more closely with demand, reduce inventory risk and create value through smarter, more collaborative systems.” said Matthijs Crietee ,Secretary General of IAF

A central concept of the Manifesto is smart flexibility — the capability to align production, planning, information and incentives more closely with real demand. The document highlights the growing importance of postponement strategies, upstream technology applications, integrated textile-apparel collaboration and new commercial models that better align incentives across the value chain.

The Manifesto also emphasises the strategic role of manufacturers as orchestrators of flexibility and value creation, rather than as interchangeable suppliers operating under purely transactional relationships.

To support implementation, the Manifesto introduces a practical framework based on three phases:

Define – establish shared direction and principles

Enable – advance pilots, demonstrations, experimentation and implementation

Standardize – build common language, metrics and scalable industry practices

The initiative builds on the IAF–ITC study Under the Banyan Tree: Buyers and Suppliers in Fashion and adopts the 5C Framework — Contracts, Capital, Capacity Building, Commons and Creator Market — as a lens for collective action.

IAF invites manufacturers, brands, textile producers, technology providers, investors, policymakers and industry associations to engage with the Manifesto and contribute to the transition toward smart, productive and sustainable apparel manufacturing.

Download the manifesto.

About IAF

The International Apparel Federation (IAF) is the global federation of apparel manufacturers, brands and their associations, representing the apparel industry across more than 40 countries. Through industry dialogue, partnerships and collaborative initiatives, IAF works to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of the global apparel sector.

London, 25 June 2026 — The Pakistan Ready Made Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has formally committed to establishing a National Chapter under the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI), the manufacturer-led programme convened by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF).

The commitment was marked by the mutual signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday 24th June, during a London Climate Action Week event on Financing Transformation in the Global Apparel and Textile Sector, co-hosted by ATTI and British International Investment.

With this commitment, Pakistan becomes the third country to join ATTI, alongside two ATTI pioneer countries, Bangladesh and Türkiye, marking a significant expansion of the initiative’s reach across major garment and textile manufacturing hubs.

About the Initiative

ATTI supports manufacturers and their associations to develop manufacturer-led, context-specific Transformation Plans, focusing on energy, water and other environmental impacts. Transformation Plans are implemented in collaboration with brands, governments and other industry actors. The initiative was developed in recognition of the unique role manufacturers and their associations play in driving impactful, context-specific solutions at country level.

It was launched by the International Apparel Federation and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation during London Climate Action Week 2025.

Scope of Collaboration

Under the agreement, ATTI commits to supporting PRGMEA across the full Scope of Work, including the ATTI Needs Assessment, collaborative solutions design, and the completion and implementation of the resulting Transformation Plan for the sector. ATTI will also be responsible for securing the financial support and funding assistance required to implement these activities, facilitating stakeholder engagement, assessments, prototype development, and execution of the Transformation Plan in collaboration with PRGMEA.

In turn, PRGMEA commits to providing the institutional resources, staff capacity, and member engagement needed to ensure effective design and implementation of the National Chapter and the resulting ATTI Transformation Plan.

The two organisations will begin this work with an in-country kick-off meeting between key figures from PRGMEA and ATTI and other relevant stakeholders, supported by a scoping trip. An Initiating Technical Committee will also be established to advise on the design and implementation of the National Chapter and Transformation Plan.

Statements

Dr Ayyazuddin, Head of Decarbonisation Committee, PRGMEA, said: “Joining ATTI marks a pivotal step for Pakistan’s garment and textile sector. Through this important partnership, we are ready to build on the foundations of Pakistan’s existing success to scale solutions within Pakistan and beyond to the global apparel and textile industry”

Matthijs Crietee, Secretary General, International Apparel Federation; Board Member, ATTI, said: “We are delighted to welcome Pakistan into ATTI. PRGMEA’s innovative and inspiring approach to industry transformation makes it an ideal partner, and we look forward to a productive and impactful collaboration as we work together to address the sector’s most pressing sustainability challenges.”

Olivia Windham Stewart, ATTI, said: “As one of the world’s most significant garment manufacturing and exporting nations, Pakistan’s inclusion strengthens ATTI’s mission to reduce fragmentation, coordinate efforts, and accelerate the sector’s transition to lower-impact production. As one of IAF’s most active members, and a leading association within Pakistan, PRGMEA is uniquely positioned to lead this work.”

About ATTI

The Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI) is a joint programme launched and led by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF). Developed in response to member priorities, ATTI promotes an innovative, manufacturer-led, nationally oriented and globally coordinated approach to industry transformation — focusing on key sustainability issues across the supply chain, including energy efficiency, water use, emissions, and other environmental impacts.

ATTI was formally established as a Dutch Foundation (Stichting) in December 2025.

About PRGMEA
