In this brief article, we would like to give you a quick overview of facts about the Russian apparel industry. Currently, more than 10 thousand enterprises operate in the field of clothing production in Russia, of which 160 enterprises are large and medium sized and the rest are small. More than 200 thousand people are employed in this sector, of which 80 thousand people are employees of large and medium-sized companies and 120 thousand people work for small companies. The annual turnover of clothing companies exceeds 230 billion rubles or about 3.3 billion euros.
Russian garment factories produce almost the entire range of clothes for men, women and children. One of the successfully developing areas is the tailoring of uniforms, corporate and special clothing, which is associated with the presence of industrial production of fabrics for the corresponding purpose in Russia. About a third of the factories specialize in sewing textile products, about 2/3 – from knitted fabrics.
The materials used for production are mainly imported. However, thanks to the development of Russia’s own production of knitted fabrics and non-woven materials, many garment factories began to successfully use the products of the domestic textile industry.
Almost all large and medium-sized manufacturers have modernized production in recent years, installed modern cutting machines, sewing equipment and equipment for wet-heat treatment and use automatic design systems.
