Known as the Olympic Games of international professional skills and held every two years, the WorldSkills Competition is a world-class event of professional skills, and each competition is held in different countries/regions. This year marks its 45th anniversary.
In 2003, with the trust of the Macao SAR Government, the fashion department of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) participated in the WorldSkills Competition for the first time for the skill of Fashion Technology. CPTTM is responsible for selecting, training and designating one Competitor and one Expert to participate in the competition on behalf of Macao. CPTTM has participated in Fashion Technology for eight rounds in a row, winning a silver medal in the 41st Competition, and the Medallions of Excellence in three consecutive competitions.
With the development of global trend, the contents of competition of Fashion Technology has been gradually reformed to meet the developmental needs of the industry. By participating in the competition, Experts will be able to transfer international standards and technology to Macao, whereby optimizing the training and education of the fashion and creative industry in Macao and cultivating professionals. Meanwhile, it will also improve the quality of the fashion and creative industry, forcing the Macao fashion and creative industry to shift from its focus on factory orders and mass production to diversified creative fashion designs, focusing on creating high quality and high-end products, as well as promoting created-in-Macao fashion labels; therefore it makes the entire fashion and creative industry in line with international practice.
After the competition, majority of the local young competitors continue to work and develop in the fashion and creative industry, disseminating the international standards and technologies they have learned to the Macao fashion and creative industry, thus contributing to the upgrading of technologies and skills of the industry.
The 45th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Kazan, Russia in August this year. Ms. Kuan Chan Victoria Alexa, Deputy Director General of the Center, has been appointed as Skills Competition Manager of Fashion Technology of WorldSkills Competition 2019. It is the first time that a Macao born has served as a member of the top management of this international competition and coordinated relevant work for the skill of Fashion Technology.
