Surprising International Jury by the 16 Entrants’ Creativities
With a collection entitled The Death of Soldiers, Chu Chia-Hsuan, a young talent from Taiwan, beat the other 15 entrants and received a championship at the final selection of 2014 Taiwan Fashion Design Award (TFDA) on November 7th, 2014. The champion obtained a trophy and a bonus of US$10,000. The final selection runway show and award ceremony was held at the Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The second prizes were given to 2 entrants. One was Lin Lun-Ting from Taiwan and the other, Huang Yi-Fu from Taiwan, with works entitled I dreamed. I dream and Rebellious and elegance respectively. The third prizes were divided in 3 categories. The first one was Tseng Kuan-Yu for the Best Use of Fabrics, the second Hsieh Yi-Chieh for the Best Pattern Making, and the third Cheng Chen-Fu for the Best Market Potential. Established in 1987, TFDA has been organized by Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) annually. After a while, the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs recognized its importance and decided to sponsor the event.
Participation by International Juries Highlights the TFDA an Internationalized Event
In order to promote the event to an international level and widen all entrants’ visions, TTF therefore invited heavyweight professionals to be the judges this year. Jury members included Dai Fujiwara, a Japanese master in design and creativity, Chizuru Muko, Fashion Director of WWD Japan, Catriona MacNab, Chief Creative Officer of WGSN. Besides, Jamei Chen, a renowned Taiwanese senior fashion designer, Stephane Dou, the co-founder of Taiwan’s leading designer brand STEPHANEDOU-CHANGLEE YUGIN, Eddie Yuan, a well-known fashion editor in Taiwan, and Charlotte Chiang, Deputy Director of TTF’s Textiles and Fashion Design Department. All judges emphasized that the design creativity should be as important as the completion of detailed works. Finally, they did come to an agreement to select Chu Chia-Hsuan as this year’s TFDA champion. The judges mentioned the champion’s creativity was quite characteristic and its details were also managed professionally. Chu Chia-Hsuan, as the first prize winner, expressed her appreciation to the recognition of the jury on her design. She also confirmed the importance of the TFDA as a platform to let her works exposed in front of press and fashion professionals. On the whole, she said it was an unforgettable experience.
Apparel Enterprises Supporting to the TFDA
Over the years, TFDA has become a regular platform for young fashion talents to show their works. For many winners, this contest stood as a milestone for them toward their initiating professional career as well as a useful way to market at home and abroad. Meanwhile, local textile and apparel industry paid attention to the event for exploring new blood into their enterprises. Consequently, more and more industrialists would like to support the event. This year, Eclat Textile, Wintex Knitwear, Tianmu GoToBuy On Line Shop and Makalot Industrial generously sponsored to the TFDA. The total amount bonus was NT$1.3 million, including for the champion was US$10,000, for the two second prizes were US$5,000 each, and for the three third prizes was US$3,000 each as for the Best Use of Fabrics, the Best Pattern Making and the Best Market Potential. The rest of entrants were presented US$1,000 each.
