[TC]2 recently participated in the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s SGIA Expo 2013 held in Orlando, FL October 23-25. Our 3D body scanner and i-Styling retail solution was part of an integrated demonstration in the Digital Textile Printing Zone. This zone, one of seven educational areas set up for display, demonstration, and presentations on a variety of topics of interest, included digital printers of several different types and speeds printing on polyester and natural fibers for the apparel, home furnishings and signage industries, as well as finishing and cutting equipment. The integrated demo was intended to show the cycle of a garment from body scan, avatar creation and size prediction, through digital printing, post-processing of the printed fabric, automated cutting, and sewing.
Other zones at the Expo included the Color Management and Workflow Solutions Zone, the Digital Apparel Production Zone, the Digital Signage Innovation Zone, the Professional Decal Application Alliance (PDAA) Graphics Application Zone, the Screen Printed Apparel Training Zone, and the Strategic Sustainable Solutions Zone. All these areas offered free educational presentations by a number of industry professionals in their area of expertise.
This year’s Expo was well attended with 22,400 registrants. The 212,000 sq ft. show floor was 100% sold out with a total of 534 exhibitors. In addition to the presentations in each of the educational zones on the show floor, there was an organized educational program consisting of more than 40 seminar sessions. Networking opportunities abounded with seven receptions. The first-ever co-location of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) Expo offered an exciting opportunity for attendees of each show to visit exhibitors in both halls.
New digital printers shown include grand format UV printing equipment, flatbed printers that even have the capability to print on edible substrates, faster roll to roll textile printers for both dye-sublimation and natural fiber printing, and direct to garment printers. New products were shown in every category from printable substrates and software, to garment decoration and trade show displays.
The SGIA Expo is a great way for professionals in the areas of garment decoration, digital printing, and sign and banner to learn what is new, as well as connect with suppliers and developers for the industry. The 2014 Expo will be held in Las Vegas, NV October 22-24.
